Seasoned chefs representing Elkhart Lake’s best restaurants will compete in a live cook-off in the resort community’s first TOP CHEF Elkhart Lake event. The contest will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 14, at the Osthoff Resort, Palm Garden Ballroom. And, best of all, guests who attend the event will join in an afternoon of unlimited tasting of gourmet foods and fine wine and, casting votes to determine this year’s “Top Chef.” Rounding out the selection will be a panel of food experts who will assist in the judging. In addition, attendees, if they wish, will be able to participate in a food-themed silent auction at the event. All the while guests will be serenaded with live musical entertainment, a perfect complement to the fine food. Attendees will have an opportunity to bid at the event to upgrade to a favorite chef?s table, providing an up-close perspective of that chef in action. Admission is $50 per person. The competition will require participating chefs to produce a main entree -- working with a specified collection of ingredients, and a main meat chosen through a drawing. They?ll face off before the guest audience right there in the ballroom, executing each step to their culinary compositions. Guests even will get a video glimpse of the chefs as they prepared, in their own work kitchens, for the competition: scouring their favorite cookbooks, rifling through their spice racks, testing recipe ideas. Featured chefs are Travis Whitcomb from Brown Baer, Victor Littig from Elkhart Inn, Victoria Nack from Feed Mill Shops, Jake Jacobson from Lake Street Cafe, Chad Kornetzke from Osthoff Resort, Lynn Chisholm from Paddock Club, and Zeke Fitzgerald from Victorian Village. The event is a fundraising effort to support the Midwest Council for Children with Disabilities in continuing efforts to assist special needs children in Sheboygan County with therapy, medical treatment, equipment, and supplies that are unaffordable and not covered by health insurance. Over the past five years, MCCD, a registered not-for-profit charity and IRS 501(c)(3) organization, has provided $155,349 in funding to 24 children in the Sheboygan County area. But with the economy troubled, and many support agencies cutting back services, the MCCD waiting list for children in need has grown faster than ever. Event organizers continue to welcome event sponsors, offering exclusive opportunities, including that of title sponsor, bar sponsor, and chef sponsor.
