The 18th annual Chilton Lions Club Big Bucks Raffle took place on March 2nd at the Eagles Club in Chilton.

Well over one hundred people attended the event and eagerly bought dozens of raffle tickets in hopes of winning monetary or gift items.
Although the Grand Prize winner of $5,000 went to Todd and Jennifer Schmidlkofer, it was Eleanor Ludke that stole the show.  Dick, Eleanor’s husband, was a long term member of the Lion’s Club and had recently passed away.  Eleanor was allowed the privilege to pick several raffle winners and luckily her name was called for a nice sum.  She looked skyward and said, “He is looking out for me.”  The Ludke family also finished the Adirondack chairs that Dick was working on at the time of his death and donated them for the evening’s raffle.

Orville Rieth, another long term member of the club whom also recently passed away, was paid tribute by allowing his wife Gertie to pick additional winners.

The Chilton Lion’s Club annually raises and donates between fifteen and eighteen thousand dollars per year.  In addition to the Big Bucks Raffle, their yearly fundraisers include the sale of spring birthday calendars and assisting with Beer Fest in May.  In 2009, they donated $17,838 to over twenty charitable causes.  Community recipients included the Chilton Public Library, Chilton Recreation Department, Chamber Scholarship Program, and Leahy –Lions Park improvements; donations to the Chilton Public Schools went toward the Wall of Honor, crossing guard trip, Booster Club, scholarships, birthday books, and the Salvation Army Toy Project.

Lion’s Clubs across the nation raise funds for vision. The Chilton Lion’s Club participated in this mission by donating money toward vision assistant readers, leader dogs, eye banks, glasses, a Mexico vision trip, and the Driving after 50 Program.  The club also donated toward state and national charities.
