Surplus items owned by Calumet County are available for purchase online at www.publicsurplus.com.

Calumet County Accounting Manager Kathryn Gerhartz said the site is a good way for the county to sell unused items such as desks, binders and chairs.

The county just started using the service, Gerhartz said, and has sold about five or six desks. There is no fee for the county to list the items, however a fee is charged when the item is purchased. Gerhartz said the items are currently only available for pick-up due to their size, but that in the future, smaller items could possibly be shipped for a fee to the buyer.

Gerhartz said it was important for people to continually check the website, as it is periodically updated with new items.

Gerhartz decided to use this service as a way to get rid of surplus items after talking to some members of the Wisconsin Association of Public Purchasers group.

County Administrator Jay Shambeau said that other municipalities use this type of site to sell surplus items, and that this is another way for Calumet County to offer these items to the public.
