Two Rivers Coast Guard Petty Officers Bill Blair, Jeremy Zimmer and Kyle Rice educated children and adults on the workings of the Coast Guard at the Chilton Public Library on July 14.

Attendees learned about the role of the Coast Guard on a local and national level.

The Search and Rescue (SAR) teams provided what their name states as well as law enforcement, marine safety, and recreational boating safety.

The Two Rivers SAR unit covers Lake Michigan to the north at Kewaunee and to the south at Cleveland and ten miles out in the water. They also provide coverage on Lake Winnebago for the EAA event.

SAR equipment was explained and was on hand for the kids and adults to touch and view.

Aid to Navigation (ATON) equipment was also explained and demonstrated with a buoy light on display.

The Two Rivers Coast Guard partners with McDonalds and the Washington House in Two Rivers to provide coupons to kids for ice cream and sundaes when they are seen wearing their life jackets.

They stress that all children under the age of 12 should wear a life jacket while boating.

The children enjoyed an opportunity to board a navigational boat used by the Two Rivers Coast Guard as well as a coloring book with further reminders of boater safety.
