Grand Reopening Sept 10th and 11th

Owners Gary and MariKay Mathes welcome the public back to a brighter, roomier, and modernized Pla-Mor Lanes since closing in mid-May for an extensive remodeling project.

Patrons entering from the front door will find Pla-Mor unrecognizable as three separate areas were demolished and one larger room and bar constructed. The former establishment housed a small front bar for the general public, a service bar for the bowlers and a kitchen separating the two areas. The Mathes's demolished the three areas and opened up the square footage by constructing one considerably larger room.

"We were not set up efficiently; one bartender could not service both bars and the kitchen blocked the view. It is now much easier to operate and more convenient for customers," said Gary.

The area boasts one larger bar and new tables constructed from former bowling lanes which were redone three years ago. The seating capacity is doubled. Newly installed items include five flat screen TV's, a juke box, darts, several other games and a larger pool table area.

Mathes's purchased the adjacent building to the east which now houses the kitchen. They are planning a further remodel of that building in the future.

The newer kitchen has allowed the menu to undergo a transformation as well.

Once limited to serving a few items such as appetizers, burgers and fries they have added considerably more with an emphasis on healthier foods. "We now have soups, wraps, quesadillas, and a variety of pizzas. Eventually we would like a Friday Fish Fry but we won't put anything out until we know it is good and just right," said MariKay.

Pla-Mor is open at 11:00 am with the full menu, earlier than their previous 2:00 pm before the remodel and seven days per week after Labor Day. Their bowling leagues are ready to go and they continue to cater to a variety – men's, ladies, couples, seniors, juniors, adult/child and Special Olympic Athletes.

Mathes's are proactive in looking for ways to increase business. They are willing to sponsor dart, pool, and other leagues. "We were once reluctant to sponsor other leagues since we wanted the bowlers to have room at the bar, but now with more space we can offer so much more," said Gary.

Their use of a website, pla-morlanes.com and Facebook assist in attracting a younger generation. Their Facebook account highlights weekly specials for Moonglow bowling which takes place on Friday and Saturday's from10:00pm to 1:00am where one bowls to satellite radio and black lights. The $15 cost includes shoes and unlimited bowling. The mention of the weekly Facebook special may award one free pizza or three bowlers for the price of two.

The Grand Reopening is planned for Friday and Saturday September 10th and 11th. DJ Boogie Time Duke will play both nights at 9:00 pm. Prizes and drink specials will also be available.

"We have great clientele. We are just giving them more to look forward to," said the Mathes's.
