The newest members of the Girl Scout cookie family for 2012, Savannah Smiles, are a lemony delight to celebrate 100 years of Girl Scouting!
Juliette "Daisy" Gordon Low assembled 18 girls from Savannah, Georgia, on March 12, 1912, for a local Girl Scout meeting. She believed all girls should be given the opportunity to develop physically, mentally and spiritually. Within a few years, Daisy's dream for a girl-centered organization was realized. Over the past couple months, Girl Scouts have been setting their cookie goals and between January 5 and 22, they will set out to accomplish both individual and group success. Selling cookies helps all girls realize their full potential and become strong, confident, and resourceful citizens – while having fun, too! In addition to the Savannah Smiles, Girl Scouts will be bringing you seven other returning favorites: Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Trefoils, Do-Si-Dos, Dulce de Leche, and Thank U Berry Munch! The public anticipates the few weeks of the year when their cravings for Thin Mints are fulfilled, but to millions of girls, the Girl Scout Cookie Program provides an opportunity to discover their own skills, connect through teamwork, and take action by achieving their goals. If you are not contacted by a Girl Scout but would still like to buy cookies, go to girlscoutcookies.org or contact Sue Vanne at 849-4227. Since 1917, the Girl Scout Cookie Program has been an integral part of Girl Scouts' Business and Economic Literacy Initiative teaching leadership development, financial literacy and personal growth. The cookies are baked by Little Brownie Baker, which has been baking Girl Scout Cookies for more than 35 years. It is their mission is to provide cookies and support services of the highest quality. About Girl Scouts of Manitou Council: While the council maintains an office and Girl Scout shop, Petals to Patches, in Sheboygan, we have strong Girl Scouting in every community in the council.
