Good Shepherd Parish of Chilton is embarking on a new social concerns project and is extending an invitation to all who would like to get involved.
Good Shepherd Parish has partnered with Food for the Poor to raise funds towards drilling and installing a well, for a village in Haiti. Water, H2O, Agua, it has many names. It is the most important nutrient needed by man. To fill a glass with cool water is effortless for you & me. But for 8-year-old Kesliene Jean of Haiti it is a two mile trek to a polluted river near her family's hut. She makes this trip five times a day to ensure her family of enough unclean water for the day. The same water that Kesliene retrieves for drinking water, several other families were bathing and washing clothes in it. You & I can't imagine such desperate means of survival. But for families and villages like Kesliene's, there is no other choice. (Taken from staff reporter Michael Hutchinson, Food for the Poor) Food for the Poor is the largest international relief organization in the United States according to Chronicle of Philanthropy. The organization serves the poorest of the poor in 17 countries throughout the Caribbean and Latin America. Since its inception, in 1982, Food for the Poor has distributed more than 43,900 tractor-trailer loads of aid and has built more than 50,000 homes. More than 96 percent of all donations received went directly to programs to benefit the poor. Food for the Poor has received the highest possible rating from industry observers: four stars from Charity Navigator and five stars from Ministry Watch. Throughout the month of July, the parishioners of Good Shepherd parish are collecting their loose change from their pockets and putting it towards a clean water project. The total cost of drilling and installing a well is $5298. They are hopeful in obtaining this goal. There will be collection containers located at numerous businesses throughout Chilton. If you are interested in contributing a larger amount, make checks payable to Good Shepherd parish and make a notation saying Clean Water Project. A special account has been established for this project... Together we can make a difference. You can log on www.foodforthepoor.org and find many numerous ways of helping. If you have any questions you can contact Good Shepherd Parish at 849-9363 and ask for Deacon Dennis or Pauline Geiser 849-7393 Chairperson of Social Concerns Ministry. |
