At Miller's Restaurant at 106 W Main, butterscotch ice cream is 35c/quart.

County salaries are listed. The county clerk makes $1,500 per year, the Sheriff $1,350, the District Attorney $1,500 and the highway commissioner $2,000.

The County Board of Supervisors voted to build a new courthouse. A modern structure is to replace the antiquated building used for over half century. Replacement costs are limited to fifty thousand dollars.

Two school girls at Calumet Harbor are attached by a rabid dog.

Fire in Hilbert destroys the barns of Dr. C.F.Lawler and John Sohn, Sr. Residences were saved by the hard work of fire fighters. The fire began from an explosion of an oil stove hued by Frank Tecks, Dr. Lawler's hostler.

Skater James McNabb Armstrong from Berlin entertained locals at the Chilton Opera House with his roller skating fancy and tricks.

Organization of a night dis-cussion group for farmers was held at the Wagner school in Charlestown under the leadership of Earl Wagner.

A check for $1,274 was received from the State Dept. of Ag for the 1936 Coounty fair.

Christmas mail volume here is the highest in years.

An estimated crowd of 1,200 residents of the city and locality filled the high school auditorium to capacity for the colorful Christmas program presented by city and rural school children.

New phone books will be distributed by the Commonwealth Telephone Co.
The first Christmas party sponsored by the County Highway Association for county employees was held at the new county garage.

Playing at the Chilton Theatre is Johnny Weissmuller and Maureen O'Sullivan in Tarzan Escapes.

100 Years Ago December 30, 1911

County Board complies with new highway law, requiring that more than 600 miles of road will be built.

A Farmers Institute will be held in Brant.

There are currently 725 prisoners in the state prison in Fond du Lac, 701 men and 24 women. The article goes on to break down their religious affiliations and literacy.

A Leap Year dance will be held at the Opera House.

Students from state universities are home for the holidays. Earl McGrath, John Thiel, PE McCabe, and John Minahan attend Marquette University.

Professor H.S. Youlser, supervisor of practice of the Oshkosh Normal School, visits here to review a proposed change in high school coursework mandating that a term in political geography is to be taken in the junior or senior year.

Chilton’s assessed value now tops $7.4 million.

Ding dong! School Bells Ring. There will be about 350 high school students, 210 in the elementary departments and 52 in kindergarten – 20 less kindergarten children than last year. A record number of freshman are registered – 105.

Over half of the Chilton High graduates will continue their education in some way.

John Diedrich is elected to head the highway unit.

Gov. Nelson is being praised for his program to protect and preserve WI outdoor resources in their natural beauty.

Mary Krupp is elected Harvest Queen of New Holstein Fair.

WI now has 1,665,847 motor vehicles – an all time high.

Coach Jim Stracka is basing his hopes for a successful football season on a big line that averages about 190 pounds.

August 27, 1936

Fire destroys farm property at two different locations. The Carl Ziegan farm near Kloten had $6,000 in damages and the Fred Feldusen farm near Hayton lost $10,000.

The graveling project of hwy 57 just south of the city nears completion.

Schools open next week. Fifty-two children have signed up for the new German course offered. The type writing class is also in high demand.

100 pastors and teachers are expected at Ebenezer Sunday School Convention.

High quality entertainers are booked for the fair – Lulu Belle and Slyland Scotty; Winnie, Lou and Sally; and Tom Owens’ Cornhuskers are just some of those big names.

September 2, 1911

A cow in Hilbert is killed by the Assistant State Veterinarian due to hydrophobia (rabies).

Chilton is having a reunion for the twenty-first regiment of WI volunteer infantry of the Civil War. This regiment was organized in Oshkosh and was composed of companies enlisted from Winnebago, Fond du Lac, Manitowoc, Waupaca and Calumet counties. Col. Benjamin Sweet, a resident of Chilton helped organize the event.

By law, all new bridges in the state of WI must be built to carry fifteen tons.

Numerous automobiles are vandalized in Hilbert.

Fluoride mouth rinse program is offered at area schools by Cal Co Public Health Nursing Service.

CHS football team is young, untested and enthused. Allan Coenen returns as head coach for Brillion. Eleven letterman form the strength of Hilbert football squad.

Benches have now been constructed at baseball diamonds at Chilton Elementary School as the result of an Eagle Scout project completed by Mike Keuler.

Cal Co will merge its sheriff and traffic departments.

August 24, 1961

Four Sherwood teens are killed in a three-car accident.

Calumet Memorial Hospital reports what has occurred in their first five years of operation. They employ 54 full-time and 20 part-time employees. Patients are being admitted at the rate of 5.5 per day and out-patient rate of 4.5 per day. More than 2,000 babies have been delivered and 10,000 admissions overall.

Walter Freitag, a local tailor, leaves his entire estate to the Chilton Lutheran Church.

Miss Barbara Hipke, second year teacher for Air Force Dependents will be teaching in Libya this year.

CHS football co-captains are both hurt as season begins. Harry Geiser was injured in a farm accident and John Thielmann cut a finger during a passing drill.

City Summer Recreation program draws 2,635 over the summer.
