An anonymous donor gives $100,000 for the Hilbert football field project. Chilton School Board took another step toward financing construction of a new high school, swimming pool, and auditorium when they approved a second sale of Bond Anticipation Notes. Former CHS student Peter Gruett a student at UW-Madison will return next week along with a world class vocal ensemble of the UW Madrigal Singers. Skating at Lake Chilton is now open for business. Stephaney Larache of the Dominican Republic and Lukas Kummer of Switzerland are the two AFS students at CHS. Ron Krause was chosen in a sweepstakes drawing to participate in Chevrolet's Ultimate Game Day experience where he will attempt a field goal at Lambeau Field. Stockbridge High School sports teams set to play in newly formed Heritage Conference. 25 Years Ago Patrick Gene Isajw was the first baby born at Calumet Memorial Hospital for 1987. Chilton Country Store will expand to add fitness and change its name to Vitality Haus at 54 W Main. John Rollmann and Elisabeth Martens announce their engagement. In sports, New Holstein boy's basketball finishes strong over Valders, Hilbert beats Stockbridge, CHS gymnastics dominates over Southern Door, Hilbert girls upset Brillion, and Chilton swimmers sink Kiel. The Beacon in New Holstein has plans to reopen following a Dec 31 fire and water damage incident. Frank Wasdovitch is named Calumet Park Superintendent. Fifty-one persons applied for the job. 50 Years Ago Chilton's couple of the year is Mr. and Mrs. Vince Todd. They once operated the Gamble Store. Donald Bonk and George Winkler are named State Bank Directors. Daniel John Hatchell is the first baby born at Calumet Memorial Hospital for 1962. Hilbert phone users will be able to call Sherwood toll free after Jan 18. Women make up one-third of the U.S. Labor force and one of every three married women works. The average school year cost of attending the University of Wisconsin for a single man who is a resident of the state and who lives away from home is $1,463. The cost for WI women is $1,530. The county clerk makes $1,500 per year, the Sheriff $1,350, the District Attorney $1,500 and the highway commissioner $2,000. 100 Years Ago The County Board of Supervisors voted to build a new courthouse. A modern structure is to replace the antiquated building used for over half century. Replacement costs are limited to fifty thousand dollars. Two school girls at Calumet Harbor are attached by a rabid dog. Fire in Hilbert destroys the barns of Dr. C.F.Lawler and John Sohn, Sr. Residences were saved by the hard work of fire fighters. The fire began from an explosion of an oil stove hued by Frank Tecks, Dr. Lawler's hostler. Skater James McNabb Armstrong from Berlin entertained locals at the Chilton Opera House with his roller skating fancy and tricks. |
