At the February 2 meeting of the Chilton City Council, members moved forward with plans to develop a new subdivision north of Hwy. 151 on Irish Road.

The city approved a plan to seek proposals from developers for the eight-lot subdivision known as Field Court.

City officials said they hoped to have a single developer purchased the subdivision and develop it. The subdivision has eight lots zoned for two-family residences. There are also two larger lots for multiple-family residences, however there are plans to build a senior-living facility on these two lots.

The city will provide an asphalt street and concrete gutter and curb. Sanitary and storm sewers, as well as water mains will also be built by the city. A storm detention pond is included in the plans. Additional, the city would provide infrastructure for electric, gas telephone and cable utilities.

In other city business, the council is also seeking proposals for the Karl Kent Plumbing building, located at 35 West Main St.
The city wants the building put back on the tax roll. The building could be used for retail, commercial, office, restuarant or other space, but the city would like it to fit the redevelopment goal of the central business district. Proposals for the building are due by May 3, 2010.

The city also adopted a revised no-smoking ordinance. The new ordinance, No. 1057, mimics state standards, however, allows the ordinance to be enforced locally so that forfeitures can be collected and kept within the city.

The city’s Census 2010 Complete Count Committee met at the end of January to discuss strategies for getting information about the Census out to the community.

The committee is trying to remind residents that the 2010 Census is not very lengthy. The entire 10-question census should only take about 10 minutes to complete.

PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETING SCHEDULED
At the city’s most recent meeting, the council approved the purchase of a new pick-up truck and plow.

A 2010 Dodge Ram 4x4 will be outfitted with a plow and lift gate. The truck will be purchased from Central Garage for just over $23,000. The plow and gate will cost around $7,800 and will be purchased from Kraus Snow Plows in New Holstein. City Director of Public Works said the money was budgeted for this year, and the truck will replace a 1996 pick-up truck.

The council also noted that a public information meeting will be held on Thursday, February 25 at City Hall. The meeting will cover the reconstruction of Main Street (Hwy. 151) between Madison Street and State Street. They will also cover the reconstruction of School Street from between Madison and State Streets.

The plan proposes to reconstruct the two-lane roadway with parking, new street lighting, a stamped terrace and sidewalk.
Utility work will also be done, including water service, storm sewer and sanitary sewer work.

The city noted that both roadways will be closed, however, not a the same time.
