It’s more than just the game. This past season spectators at Chilton High School sporting events have had an added attraction – The Spirited Mascot Races. The idea, originated by Chilton Booster Club member Deb Barany, was inspired by the frolics of high school mascots and the Brewer’s popular sausage races. Late last summer area businesses were contacted about their interest in funding a costume to represent their business for half time races at school events. Several embraced the idea and the chase began. The Chilton Booster Club or CBC now has seven mascots in their fleet for half time antics. Scoop’s Scrumptious Sundae, State Bank of Chilton Money Bags, Critter Sitter’s Doggie Dalmatian, Vern’s Cheese Wedge, Rowland’s Root Beer Bottle, Chilton Furniture Mattress Man, and Kaytee Products Bird have made appearances at football and basketball games. The amusing motley crew races each other at half time. Attendees purchase three tickets for two dollars and then cast their vote for the mascot of their choice. One ticket is pulled from the voting box of the winning mascot and the ticket holder receives 50% of the proceeds from the day. The mascots have raised funds for and awareness of the CBC which was formed in 2009 for the purpose of providing support and encouragement to students associated with Chilton School Athletic Programs in grades 7-12. CBC contributes goods, services, and monetary support to augment the athletic programs at Chilton Public Schools.
