Mary A. Berrens, age 78, of Chilton, died on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at her home in Chilton. She was born October 1, 1933, in St. Joe, daughter of the late Sylvester & Leona (Krebsbach) Zorn. She married Art Berrens on November 5, 1949, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Chilton.
The couple owned and operated the Berrens Bakery in Chilton for many years. Art preceded her in death on September 8, 1997. She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, formerly St. Augustine Parish, and was devoted to the Perpetual Adoration Chapel. Mary was a sweet and caring woman with a deep and profound faith; throughout her life, many significant trials presented themselves and Mary's faith never waivered. In fact, it was that well rooted faith that carried her into better days and a time which she could give thanks to God for the life He had blessed her with. Mary truly enjoyed every day of retirement, filling her time with latch hook, puzzles, and rooting on the Chicago Cubs; on occasion she would be seen cheering for the Brewers if their victory was of positive impact on her beloved Cubs. She was always looking out for others, making sure that the people in her family were put first in her life.
Her granddaughters brought her the greatest joy in life, and Mary treasured each and every moment she was able to spend with them. She will be fondly remembered, and greatly missed by her children: Linda (Bruce) Sweetman, Lori Brocker; 2 grandchildren: Jessica (Mike) Allison, Leah (Matt Harrer) Sweetman; 2 great-grandchildren: Gabe & Nate; 3 step-grandchildren: Mindy, Steph & Mike; and 3 sisters: Sharon Zorn, Pattie (Bernie) Geiser, and Debbie Dotson. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester & Leona; a step-father: Pat Berrens; a daughter and son-in-law: Louise (Dan) Kastelic; and 3 sisters: Ruthie, Deloris, Gladys, & Shirley. Funeral services were held January 7, 2012, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Chilton with the Rev. Bob Kollath officiating. Burial followed in the St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery.

Otto August Maas, 78, Chilton, was called to eternal life on Saturday, January 28, 2012.
He went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, following a period of declining health and strength.
He lived a life wrapped in the love of Jesus. He would have us remember one thing: know Jesus, live, trust and rest in Him. His family cherishes the memories of his faithful love for all, which was rooted in Jesus' love for him.
Otto A. Maas, a son given by the Lord, to Fred and Adaila Maas, was born in Watertown, Wis., on August 27, 1933. He was drafted into the United States Army on October 22, 1953, and served as light truck, ambulance and personal driver for higher ranking officers in both the U.S. and France until his honorable discharge on October 11, 1953. On July 11, 1953 he married Beverly Stache, who, together for more than 58 years, raised four children and experienced a joyous and fruitful life in the faithful companionship which the Lord had entrusted to them.
Surviving along with his wife, are a brother, Frederick "Fritz" (Betty) Maas, two sisters, Florence Loomens and Lillian Maas, two daughters, Kathleen (Tom) Teague and Lorna (Mike) Olson, and one son Kevin (Marti) Maas. He will also be remembered by 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Adaila, a son Brett, and three sisters, Anita Stache, Freida Stache and Ester Jischkowsky.
Otto enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, woodworking and wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty on automobile repairs. He was willing to try and do just about anything he thought he was capable of. Otto worked for Carnation Co. in Chilton for more than 22 years and was able to enjoy retirement at an early age.
We rejoice in the knowledge that he has been called home to live forever with his Savior. The Church was the focus of his life, which he served faithfully and displayed the Christian graces which today so richly bless our memories. His family takes this occasion to thank their many friends for the kindnesses which have been given during this time of sorrow. Christian friends and family are indeed the most meaningful gifts of life.
Funeral service will be at Noon on Saturday, February 4, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Rantoul (N6080 West River Rd., Hilbert), with the Rev. Tim Benninghoff officiating. Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2012.

Marvin A. Hoerth of New Holstein went to dance with the angels and sing with the saints early Sunday morning, Aug. 21, 2011, 10 days short of his 75th birthday.
Marvelous Marv, born to William and Loretta Hoerth on Aug. 31, 1936, in Stockbridge, grew up on the family farm before venturing west to work for the railroads after graduation from New Holstein High School in 1954. He rode the rails back to Green Bay to work as a mechanic at Lou's Standard Service in the late '50s before returning to New Holstein to open Marv's Standard Service, repairing automobiles and pumping gas. He married Kathleen O'Brien on April 19, 1958, at St. James Church in Cooperstown.
In 1968, Marv and Kathy moved to Maribel, Wis., to operate The Pines tavern, a social gathering spot for local regulars and travelers passing through on Highway 151. After quenching thirsts, lending an ear, and turning off the 'open' light, he woke up a few hours later and made the one-hour trek back to New Holstein to work full-time in the testing lab at Tecumseh Engines.
He fine-tuned the performance of lawnmower and snowblower engines as an engineering lab technician for 30 years until retiring in March 1999.
Marv and Kathy moved back to New Holstein in 1974. While continuing his career at Tecumseh, Marv also gave back to his hometown by dedicating a third of his life to public service.
Voters elected him to the city council in 1985 and then for 12 more terms after that, serving in office until 2011. His work on the council included chairing the Board of Health, Board of Public Works, and Airport Commission. He also served on the Planning Commission and helped negotiate labor contracts. Marv was also a 10-year board member of the New Holstein Historical Society from 1985-1995.
In between, he found time to participate in bowling and softball leagues, pitched horseshoes, and was unbeatable in lawn darts.
As a Green Bay Packer season ticket holder since 1957, Marv's reputation as a fan was legendary. Besides loyal attendance at regular season games, he froze in the stands during the Ice Bowl, froze again 40 years later in the NFC championship game against the Giants, partied in New Orleans for Super Bowl XXXI, and thrilled visitors to his home with extensive team memorabilia.
His sense of humor and lifelong youthful zest for life entertained all who knew him. His humble service to others and love for his family was unmatched. Marv was always willing to help others while asking nothing in return.
A sentimental big-hearted guy, he snapped thousands of photos of friends and family.
Birthdays and holidays inevitably meant a mushy greeting card was in the mail. Recipients of those cards include his surviving wife of 53 years, Kathleen; two sons and a daughter, Jeff and Kellie Hoerth of Kirkland, Wash., Greg Hoerth and special friend, Diane LeClair of Fall City, Wash., and Jennifer and John Cook of Issaquah, Wash.; three grandchildren, Tamara, Max, and Eva; a twin sister, Marlene Schneider of Kiel, and a brother, Ronald Hoerth of Manitowoc; sisters-in-law Mary Hoerth, MaryAnn O'Brien, and Colleen O'Brien; brothers-in-law Donald Kemnitz and Fr. William O'Brien; more than a dozen nephews and nieces, two aunts, an uncle, hundreds of friends and thousands of acquaintances.
He was preceded in death and reunites in heaven with a son, Ricky, a brother, Gene, his parents, and many other friends and relatives with whom he shared good times.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday, Aug. 26, 2011, at Holy Rosary Church at 1724 Madison Street in New Holstein with Father Harold Berryman officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects from 4 to 8 pm on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, at Sippel Funeral Home, 2618 Altona Avenue in New Holstein and also on Friday morning at the funeral home from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
A very heartfelt thanks goes to the many caregivers, friends, neighbors, hospital and nursing home staff who reached out to aid Dad as his challenges became insurmountable.
The world is a much better place for Marv having been here. Now heaven can make the same claim.
