Another school year is about ready to begin. The kids have new outfits, and parents have done their best to find all the items on the school supply lists. With the school's assistance, your child is ready for a new school year.
On behalf of the teachers and support staff at area schools, I would like to remind you of the number one reason for a child's success at school. It should be no mystery—parental involvement. When the parent works cooperatively with the teacher and the school, the child will be more willing to be an active part of the learning process. There will be times when you are pleased with events in your child's educational journey, and it would be most appropriate (and appreciated) to communicate your approval to both your child and the school. And, yes, there will be times when you see things differently, and will find it important to communicate your concerns. It is at those times that your attitude toward your child's teacher and support of the school will ultimately determine the success that your child will realize. And, as I close, I will remind you that getting a good night's sleep and well-balanced diet are still important parts of your child's preparation for school each day. More recently, parents also need to monitor a child's "electronic" input as well. Cell phone usage, television time, computer surfing and other current media can eat up valuable chunks of time. Is your student spending more time "text messaging" each day than studying and/or reading a good book? These are warning signs that can observed as you monitor their time at home. Have a great school year everyone. |
