The imminent arrival of spring means a lot of things to the people of Brillion Nature Center. It means the beginning of syrup season which keeps staff and volunteers running just as fast as the sap in the maple trees. Spring means an increase in numbers of programs and visitors to the nature center’s building and trails. The changing of the seasons brings a return of the fall migrants including both birds and insects. Animals that remained inactive through the winter will be making their appearances soon. One of the most exciting signs of spring for members and volunteers of Brillion Nature Center is the buzz around the Annual Spring Banquet. Already, committee members have been working hard to plan new, creative ways for people to win prizes, streamline the methods for announcing winners, and prepare a great program. Volunteers have been working hard to secure donations for the auction and raffles. Local businesses have been stepping up, giving generously to help support the nature center. We are so excited about this year’s grand door prize, donated by the Ariens Company. It is an Electric-Powered Mower AMP Rider valued at $3,295.00 . All one needs to do to have a chance at winning this ecologically-friendly mower is purchase a ticket to the BNC Banquet to be held on Saturday, April 10th. Raffle and auction items include sports tickets, an HD LCD TV, weekend resort packages at Fox Hills and Stone Harbor, the ever-popular booze raffle, electronics, money tree and much, much more! The spring banquet is the only annual fundraiser of the Brillion Nature Center. Because BNC is a non-profit organization with no guaranteed funding sources from the city, county or state, this banquet literally keeps the doors of the center open and the programs running. The generosity of the members and businesses that step up for this event has kept Brillion Nature Center going for more than 25 years. If you have never participated before, we encourage you to come and see for yourself how much fun it is. Tickets can be purchased at the Brillion Public School District Office, Calumet County Bank, or Brillion Nature Center. Call 756-3591 for more information. We may find a stump that is round like an “O”, or a snake on the ground, curved like an “S”. We will hike the trails, looking for natural objects shaped like alphabet letters. This program is designed for adults and pre-school aged children to participate together. Pre-registration is required.
