Two local students who now attend Ripon College were studying off-campus for the fall semester 2009. JoAnn Deibele, a resident of Hilbert, WI, studied in the AYA Paris program during the Fall 2009 semester. Deibele is a Junior majoring in Business Administration. Students who participate in the Paris program typically live with a host family. Besides classroom work and tutorials in language, literature, art, history, science and politics, students attend concerts, opera, films, sporting and social events and take historical and cultural excursions. Heather Nennig, a resident of New Holstein, WI, studied in the Woods Hole, Semester at Sea program during the Fall 2009 semester. Nennig is a Junior majoring in Biology. Founded in 1888, the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) at Woods Hole, MA is a world-renowned center for biological research and education with a long tradition of offering excellent hands-on research courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The MBL's facility includes one of the world's best library collections of biological and oceanographic literature, a campus-wide compute network, teaching laboratories equipped with running seawater, advanced instrumentation for chemical analysis including two isotope ratio mass-spectrometers, climate-controlled growth chambers, and a Marine Resources center dedicated to the culture and maintenance of marine organisms. The Semester in Environmental Science (SES) is sponsored by the Marine Biological Laboratory's Ecosystems Center. The Ecosystems Center is the ecological research arm of the MBL. The goal of the Center is to investigate fundamental processes and interactions linking organisms with their environment and to apply the resulting knowledge to the wise management of the world's natural resources.
