Chilton High’s forensics team is off to its best start in many years.
The team has won both its conference and subdistrict meets.  On February 8, Mishicot High School hosted Conference; CHS’s forensics squad beat out eight other teams to earn the Olympian Conference trophy.  A week later, the team followed up its initial strong performance with another victory, this time at the subdistrict meet in New Holstein.

At the conference meet, students performed twice and were awarded up to 25 points in each round for a possible total of 50 points.  Teams with at least ten entries were then eligible for the trophy, which is awarded to the highest team average.  Chilton’s average score of 20.61 topped the list; the next highest average (20.11) belonged to Menasha St. Mary’s.  Brillion (19.995) rounded out the top three team performances.

Surprisingly, at Conference, none of Chilton’s 18 entries earned a perfect 25 out of 25.  However, that was not the case at the subdistrict meet on February 15.  CHS had two strong entries earn perfect scores: Caitlin Bloomer and Kelsey Schaid in Group Interpretation and Steffi Sabel in Solo Acting (Serious).  In addition, five other entries came within a point of turning in a 25 themselves.

At Subdistrict, Chilton High School’s large squad totaled 1083 team points on its way to taking home another trophy.  In fact, that total far outmatched any of the other school’s; the next highest total was a 776 turned in by New Holstein High School.  However, in the team averages competition, both Kiel (62.222) and Manitowoc Lutheran (64.429) bested Chilton’s 60.167, leaving CHS 3rd out of 8 teams.  A total of 75 points was possible; students performed three times and were awarded up to 25 points in each round.

All eighteen of Chilton’s entries qualified for the district competition by earning 16 or more points in at least two of the three rounds.  District will be held on Monday, March 15, at Plymouth High School and Riverview Middle School.  Students will perform three times and must receive 20 or more points in at least two rounds in order to advance to State, which will be held April 17 at UW-Madison.
