Dr. Robert J. Asp, of Hilbert Family Practices, and his staff provided over $3,500 in free dental services for area children on February 5th, Give Kids a Smile Day. Dr. Asp provided these services for children screened through the Tri-County Community Dental Clinic in Appleton. The Tri-County Community Dental Clinic is an all-volunteer dental clinic whose mission is to provide quality oral health care services in a caring and compassionate manner to those individuals in Calumet, Outagamie, and Winnebago counties whose access to dental health care is limited due to inadequate income, or reduced access to Medicaid care. Dr. Asp, in addition to being a volunteer dentist at the Clinic, has served on the it’s Advisory Committee since it opened. From October 2003, when the clinic opened, to December 2009, 22,300 patients received treatment with over $8.6 million worth of donated dental care provided. In addition to the services provided on GKAS day, Dr. Asp and team members Becky Propson, Lisa Sticka, Lora Muehlbauer, Carly Lieberg, and Lauren Asp visited the Hilbert Elementary School and St.Mary’s Elementary School where they gave presentations on foods, nutrition and care of the mouth . Dr. Asp also did oral exams on the Pre-School and 4-K students. Reports of their findings were sent home to parents of children in need of dental care. Mrs. Lemke’s pre-school class from Trinity Lutheran and Mrs. Ott’s kindergarten class from Hilbert Elementary School visited Dr. Asp’s office. During their time at Hilbert Family practices they were shown a video of why sealants are important, they received a tour of the office, presentations were given on foods, nutrition & care of the mouth. Also the children took turn in the dental care as Dr. Asp demonstrated the use of the intraoral camera (the camera shows you the inside of your mouth. Each child also received a goodie bag on how to help take care of their teeth. |
