Chilton High School held its graduation ceremony on June 7th at 1 PM in the high school gymnasium. The symphonic band, directed by Richard Gilles played “Pomp and Circumstance” as the class of 2009 entered the gymnasium. Class secretary Mikka Schaller then led the class of 2009 in the pledge of allegiance, followed by class president Tanner Miller welcoming everyone to the ceremony. Principal Tim Schaid then had many kind words for the class of 2009, including a letter he read from Hazel Blanck, previous owner of Blanck’s supper club in Johnsburg. The letter complimented the integrity and honesty displayed by one of the students when they were given five dollars extra in change by mistake, and the student returned it. Co-valedictorian Kayla Dix gave her speech, ending with a quote from a Kenny Chesney song, "We all have a song that somehow stamped our lives takes us to another place and time." The concert choir sand “For Good” arranged by Mac Huff, followed by co-valedictorian Michael Van Hoorn giving his speech. The symphonic band also played “Espana Cani Pascual Marquina Narro,” followed by salutatorian Maria Meier’s speech. Tim Schaid recognized AFS student Benno Perchemeier from Germany, as well as Aylayna Enszer, Joshua Hinz and Tjark Sattler for four years of perfect attendance at Chilton High school. Class of 2009 Vice President Beth Mallmann and class treasurer David Hickmann presented the class gift of flat screen TVs intended for scrolling announcements all day long in the commons. Receiving Tiger Service awards recognizing their community service work inside and outside of school were Kody Burg and Emily Loose. David Hickmann was nominated by his class for the Paula Lutz Scholarship, in which the class votes on the individual they feel best fits the criteria. Brooke Mlada won the A.W. and Mary Jane Gordon scholarship and Thomas Kolbe won the C.E.A. scholarship. Class president Tanner Miller read the senior roll as school board president Paul Meier presented the diplomas. |
