At the Monday, November 16 Brillion School Board meeting, Superintendent Dominic Madison outlined a few new additions to the High School curriculum for the 2010 – 2011 school year. In the Family and Consumer education curriculum, classes such interior design and medical careers will be added. Cooking classes will be connected to STEM, an applied technology curriculum, aligning them with more closely with science. Child development and parenting will be combined. In physical education, more classes and more individualized sports and instruction will be offered. Finally, an ongoing STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) class was approved by the board as a permanent part of the high school curriculum. Coach Pete Kittle outlined the proposed WIAA Football Playoff Alignment , which aims to address such issues as travel distances, school sizes and traditional rivalries. The plan is currently in discussion between the various groups concerned and, he stated, will most likely be passed for 2010. A detailed audit report of district finances was presented by Karen Kerber of Kerber, Rose and Associates S.C. Ms. Kerber stated she feels the district does a good job of managing debt and that there were no real concerns in the report. In another matter, Ms. Hatch reported the middle school breakfast program has enrolled 27 students, and would like to see more students take advantage of it. |
