The Stockbridge boy's basketball team lost their last two regular season games, dropping their conference record to 2-17 at the end of regular season play.
The Indians most recent defeat came against Oostburg by a score of 74-40. In the process the Flying Dutchmen clinched a share of the Central Lakeshore Conference boys basketball championship. "It was senior night and our seniors played well," said Oostburg coach Kevin Bruggink. "We had all five of them out there on the floor together in stretches and they did a great job of playing together." It was a well played game for Oostburg. The Flying Dutchmen, outscored Stockbridge in every quarter of the game to come away with the win. "We played well, both ends of the floor," said Bruggink. "Stockbridge is a dangerous team; they're very athletic. Their record isn't tremendous, but they've been very competitive. They're solid and well-coached." Leading scorers for Stockbridge were: Mitch Schroeder with 14 and Mike Klein with 12. Alex Ecker also added 10 points, five assists and five steals. Other scorers for the Stockbridge team include: Ecker with five, Jacobs with four, Ecker and Olson with two, and Cliff with one. The Indians also lost their match up against Random Lake earlier in the week. The Rams were on fire at the shot 54 percent from the floor in the 56-48 victory. "We were able to spread them out and use our quickness advantage over their size advantage," said Random Lake coach Steve Murphy. "We used our quickness to penetrate the gaps and get some good shots." Also helping the Rams to victory was the icing of 10 of 13 from the free throw line. Quin Holeman led Random Lake with 19 points including 11 of 11 from the free throw line. Also helping the Rams to victory was Evan Rathke with 13 points and four blocks, and Andy Pohl with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Stockbridge was led in scoring in the loss by: Adam Ecker with 13, Mitch Schroeder with 11, and Mike Klein with 10. The Indians finish the regular season with a 2-17 conference record and a 3-18 record overall. They will now head to the post season where they are slated to take on Living Word Lutheran at Lutheran, in the first round of regional action on Tuesday March 2nd. |
