The Brillion girls basketball team finished their regular season on Friday March 5th, with a perfect 18-0 record in the Olympian Conference. The Lions beat the visiting Valders Vikings by a score of 40-35. Valders really gave Brillion a run for their money in the match up. The Vikings outscored the Lions in the first two quarters of the game and took a 16-11 lead into the second half. Brillion did lead early by five, but did not lead again until late in the fourth quarter. Helping the Vikings in the first half was the fact that the Lions turned the ball over 18 times. A statistic they rectified in the second half only turning the ball over twice, and that was the difference in the game "We did an unbelievable job of battling back tonight." Stated Brillion head coach Ryan O'Leary. "This team has shown how much heart and guts they have all year, and tonight was no different. I'm so proud of this team...I really can't put into words how I feel about them." The Lions were led in scoring by senior Tori Ruffing with 15, followed by Alyssa Olp with 11, Shawna Levash with five, and Jennifer Eickert with three. It was a good win for the Lions, who are looking forward, and not taking a lot of time to reflect. There is work yet to be done. The Lady Lions are set to enter the post season as a number one seed. They are set to host the number eight seed Shiocton, in their first round of regional play on Tuesday March 9. |
