Football is synonymous with Green Bay and everyone knows who the Green Bay Packers are, and most know who the Green Bay Blizzard are, but very few know who the Green Bay Gladiators are.
The Green Bay Gladiators are a Semi-Pro Football team that is part of the Northern Elite Football League (NEFL) which consists of 12 teams from all across Wisconsin, Minnesota and the U.P.
The NEFL plays outdoor football with NFL rules. The 8-game season runs though the summer months and is followed by the playoffs culminating with a Championship Game. A week later the season commences with an All-Star game and an Awards Banquet.
Two Chilton graduates have been with the Green Bay Gladiators since their inaugural season in 2007, Sean Tackett and Buddy Lisowe. Tackett starts at Left Tackle while Lisowe starts at Left Defensive End. Both players have been perennial All-Stars with Tackett garnering the league's best Offensive Lineman 3 of the last 4 years.
Lisowe and Tackett first played together on the Wisconsin Blaze, a team that folded due to the owner being called to active duty overseas.
This year two more Chilton graduates have joined the Gladiators, Andrew Lisowe and Troy Isajiw. Andrew starts at Left Guard alongside Tackett while Troy is a back-up cornerback.
This past weekend the Gladiators (5-2) traveled up to Norway, MI and clinched their second consecutive playoff berth with a 21-0 victory over the U.P. Arctic Blast (0-7). This weekend the Gladiators travel to Lawrence University's Banta Bowl in Appleton, WI to square off against the Fox Valley Force (6-1) for the Eastern Division Championship.
Three weeks ago the Gladiators handed the Force their only defeat of the season by scoring the go ahead Touchdown with 1:07 remaining to win the defensive struggle 21-18.
The game begins Saturday afternoon at 4:00 pm. For more information please visit the Green Bay Gladiators' website, www.gbgladiators.com
