NEW HOLSTEIN -- U-CAN and The Heart Truth have joined forces to provide the opportunity for adults to train for and enter an upcoming 5K run/walk at no charge.
Nancy Krueger, Wellness Coordinator for the Aging and Disability Resource Center, will lead the training for the 5K.
“At the training I will introduce a simple program that will have anyone ready to walk a 5K in five weeks. We are hoping to encourage people to step out of their comfort zone and try something new. 5Ks can seem daunting, so my goal is to give participants the confidence that completing this milestone is doable,” said Krueger.
The training session will be offered as part of the closing event for the Wellness on the Water program at the New Holstein Aquatic Center on Sunday, July 25, at 2 p.m.

Anyone coming to the Aquatic Center for the 5K training will not be required to pay the pool fees unless they intend to stay and participate in the Wellness on the Water activities or swim.
In addition to the training plan and support, all eligible participants will receive free entry into the Hilbert Cheesehead Run on August 28, and a free “I Wear Red” dry wick t-shirt. A group photo of The Heart Truth“ team will be taken at the 5K event.
Anyone, regardless of age or gender, is invited to participate in the training, however to be eligible for the free race registration and t-shirt, participants must be women between the ages of 30 and 60 who live or work in Calumet County. Men and women not meeting The Heart Truth eligibility requirements will not be turned away and will be able to receive discounted race registration and will have the option to purchase the t-shirts at cost if desired.
“Our goal is to reach 150 women with this opportunity. We want to encourage and support women who have never considered participating in something like this. Everyone can do it, you don’t need to be a runner and 5Ks can be contagious, once you complete one you might just get hooked,” said Krueger.
Interested parties can sign up for the 5K training at the New Holstein Aquatic Center front desk, call the Aquatic Center at 898-1373 or contact Krueger at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or 920-740-9572.
