Hilbert Pummels Algoma in Opener PDF Print E-mail

The Hilbert Wolves football team opened their season on Friday night at home with a convincing 41-13 win over the Algoma Wolves.

In the win Hilbert rushed for 387 yards and running backs Connor Nett, Spencer Schulz, and Marcus Kopecky all averaged more than five yards per carry.

Hilbert scored twice in the opening quarter of the match up once on a Kopecky 13 yard run and once on a Nett five yard run.

Hilbert continued to dominate as the score two more touchdowns in the second quarter on a 19 yard reception by Tommy Sweere and a 40 yard punt return by Levi Cummings. They led 28-0 at the half.

Hilbert would score another two times in the second half, once on a 55 yard bomb from quarterback Braden Hemauer to Sweere and again on a Nett 16 yard run.

Algoma's Jesse Kroll would pick up two touchdowns in the second half of the game but it was too little too late as Hilbert rolled easily to the victory.

Sweere led in receptions on the night with two catches for 74 yards.

Hilbert will hit the road to take on Roncalli on Saturday September 4th. The game starts at 1:00pm.
