The Brillion Lions football team got a big season opening win on Friday night as they took on the Sevastopol Pioneers in a 41-12 victory.
Brillion rolled to the victory on 386 rushing yards and a rushing average of 8.6 yards per carry. The Lions jumped on the board first, scoring three times before Sevastopol got on the board. Brillions first scored came in the first quarter on a Will Jensen one yard run, followed by a Tanner Behnke two yard touchdown run in the second, and a Jensen 39 yard pass for the score also in the second. The score was 19-0, when the Pioneer first got on their first score a 37 yard interception return. The Lions would head to the second half with a 19-6 lead and would score three more times before the game was through. Evan Meulemans scored in the third quarter on a one yard dash, followed by a Behnke two yard run for the score. Then in the fourth Brandon Pribbernow would go 59 yards for the Lions final score of the night. Sevastopol would score one more time on the night when quarterback Riley Spetz hit Austin Gulley with an eight yard touchdown pass. Coach Kittel had this to say after the victory, "We did a good job of establishing the run early in this game. We had nice balance rushing the ball as well." Leading rushers on the night for the Lions were: Behnke for 98 yards, Meulemans 96, Justin Zeamer 68, and Pribbernow 59. Leading receivers for Brillion were: Jordan Mathiebe 2 catches for 45 yards, James Van Thiel one catch for 39 yards, Zach Eichhorst one catch for 21 yards, Zeamer. The Lions are set to hit the road to take on their next opponent Manitowoc Lutheran on Friday September 2nd at Manitowoc Lutheran. |
