The Chilton Tigers football team opened its season with a defeat to non-conference foe Kiel on Friday August 27th by a score of 38-19.
The game sure didn't lack in scoring, as both teams scored in numerous ways. The Raiders got on the board first, when senior Isaiah Herzog returned a fumble 40 yards for the score early in the first quarter of the game. Herzog would go on to score three more times on the night, once on an 85 yard kick off return, once when he caught a pass of 25yards for the score, and once when he caught a 40 yards pass for the touchdown. Chilton's first score of the night also came in the first quarter on a fumble. Cody Schwarz picked up a fumbled pitch and ran the 35 yards for the touchdown to bring the Tigers to within one touchdown, 14-6. Kiel would score again, but the Tigers did not give up as Lucas Hemauer ran 16 yards for the score to bring Chilton to a 28-13 halftime score. Chilton's Austin Hephner then ran 57 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter but the Tigers would get no closer and would lose the game 28-29. His 40 yard return of a Chilton fumble put Kiel on the board early in the first quarter. Herzog returned a kickoff 85 yards for a TD and caught passes of 25 and 40 yards for touchdowns from quarterback Geddy Nordby. Derek Fritsch had a seven yard TD run and Brandon Riesterer nailed a 21 yard field to round out Kiel scoring. Chilton was led in rushing on the night be Austin Hephner with 100 yards on 12 carries. Hephner also led the Tigers in receiving with one catch for 16 yards. The Tigers are set to take on their next opponent, non-conference New Holstein on Friday September 2nd away.
