Established in 2009, the now one year old Chilton Booster Club (CBC) has proved success in striving toward their function of providing support and encouragement to grades 7-12 Chilton Public School students involved in school sanctioned sports.
CBC is pleased to announce that their first year of fundraising allowed them to distribute $7,794 worth of that support and encouragement. Donations were varied spanning equipment needs for multiple sports, tournament and camp costs for volleyball and basketball teams, and sponsorship of a school wide motivational speaker. Their largest donation was the purchase and installation of softball netting on the high school grounds requested for the safety of spectators. Their donations continue as CBC is currently in the process of purchasing digital video cameras which all coaches may access and Gamefilm360.com for the football team. "Gamefilm360 is an internet based video program that allows me to put every game on line for the coaches and players viewing," said Doug Kliment, varsity head football coach. "Our conference requires us to send game film to our opponents two weeks prior to a scheduled game. The system will also be helpful to players for college recruitment. CBC has been extremely helpful and a tremendous benefit to our football program." Boy's varsity head basketball coach Cory Behnke, adds "The booster club has accomplished a great deal in their first year. They have taken care of us and several other teams."
The clubs major fundraising venture for the upcoming year is replacement of the antiquated football scoreboard at Morrissey Field. The current scoreboard is 20 plus years old and the sockets continue fail at an ever increasing rate. What were once a few failed lights here and there is now standard to find several that are out of order. The school's maintenance staff tests the board before every game and replaces the lights. Hours later by game time additional lights have failed giving the public the allusion that the school is not attending to the board. Additional components such as wiring and hardware are making long lasting repairs difficult. "It's like trying to attach a new bumper to a rusted out vehicle. Looks great for awhile until you hit a bump and the new bumper falls off," said Dave Sonnabend, Chilton Public School athletic director. Depending upon selected options, wiring, shipping and more, costs are estimated to range from $12,000 to $15,000. CBC is consulting with Kliment, Sonnabend, girls track coach Rocky Gozdziewski, and boys track coach Matt Whede to explore desired options and review vendors. The distribution of CBC funds is determined by majority of vote of their officers and directors. Ideas for the bequests arrive via submitted wish lists from middle and high school coaches as well as Sonnabend. "The booster club has been very helpful in providing opportunities for our students to develop their skills outside of the school sponsored season and supporting school programs with facility and equipment items that are beyond what the athletic budget can provide," said Sonnabend. Scot Bruckner, President of CBC said," Club members have worked hard over the past year and the fruit of their efforts have shown. We greatly appreciate the time that members put forth working toward our mission and thank them for their support. We now have nearly 70 members and look forward to continued membership growth and their donation of time over this next year as we move forward with honoring requests particularly our larger goal of replacing the football scoreboard." "CBC would also like to acknowledge the financial support from the Chilton Lions Club as well as the grant money received by the Chilton Area Community Foundation for assistance with the softball netting", said Bruckner. He adds that the community in general including local businesses has been very supportive and their help is much appreciated. As an effort to financially establish itself, CBC engaged in several fundraising endeavors. Now the group has narrowed their efforts to a golf outing, middle school volleyball and basketball tournaments, spirit wear apparel, a raffle, and concession stand coverage. The Spirited Mascots, seven costumed local business characters, race pre-game or at half time contribute to the fundraising but more importantly provide public awareness for the club. The CBC lifetime membership fee is $40. For additional information on the club visit their website at www.chiltonboosterclub.com. |
