Marking the team's third straight win, the Brillion boy's basketball squad outplayed Manitowoc Lutheran by a score of 57-30 on Dec. 20.

Being able to defeat the Lancers by 27 points was something Brillion head coach Pete Kittel credited the defense with.

"We had a great start to the game tonight," Kittel said. "We played well defensively, which led to some good scoring opportunities early in the game."

That outstanding defensive play forced Manitowoc Lutheran into 21 turnovers on the night compared to 12 for Brillion. The defense wasn't only strong but it was clean as the Lions only picked up three fouls, which allowed the Lancers to only make it to the free throw line two times.

The Lions dominated Manitowoc Lutheran in almost every facet of the game including rebounding, assists, turnovers and points in the paint.

The Lancers weren't able to attempt many second chance opportunities as the team only grabbed two offensive rebounds. Brillion was able to snag 20 of its 38 rebounds on the offensive end of the court. Manitowoc grabbed a total of 18 rebounds.

Most of Brillion's 57 points came down low as the Lions earned 26 points in the paint.

That scoring was led by both Trevor Krizenesky and Ryan Reinke, each with 10 points. Krizenesky also tacked on seven rebounds, four assists and four steals, continuously causing the Lancers trouble. Reinke added four rebounds.

Despite his 10-point performance, Krizenesky was more off-target than usual, hitting only six of his 25 shot attempts.

Other scorers for the Lions were Eric Kittel with eight points, Blake Klessig, Mike Van Thiel and Jordan Mathiebe each with seven points, and Bailey Krueger with five points. Klessig and Mathiebe rallied five rebounds each.

The scoring for the Lancers was led by Adam Schwede who led both teams with 12 points along with two rebounds and an assist.

Schwede was the only Manitowoc Lutheran player Brillion allowed to make it into double-digit range. The next closest for the Lancers was Brandon Glaeser with six points and David Menk and Chris Brey each with four points.
The victory for Brillion puts the Lions record at 6-1 thus far throughout the season.

Brillion will return to the court on Jan. 5 in Roncalli to face the Jets at
7:30 p.m. The 2-5 Jets are coming off a 55-47 loss to Racine St. Catherine's.
