With five individual first place finishes, the Chilton wrestling team earned a first place overall finish at the Omro Wrestling Invitational on Jan. 7.

The Tigers grabbed 187 points and finished 17 points ahead of second place finisher Marathon High School. The invitational consisted of 10 different high schools teams.

The five first place individual finishers for Chilton included Dillon Koenigs in the 106 lbs. weight class, Nic Adkins in the 132 lbs. weight class, Mitch Fucile in the 152 lbs. weight class, Jordan Petrie in the 170 lbs. weight class and Austin Hephner in the 182 lbs. weight class.

Other finishers for the Tigers included Patrick Breckheimer, who finished in second place in the 113 lbs. weight class, Brandon Wollersheim, who finished third in the 138 lbs. weight class, Marcus Wise, who finished third in the 160 lbs. weight class, Grant Maurer, who finished fifth in the 195 lbs. weight class and Nick Walber with a sixth place finish in the 220 lbs. weight class.

The highest point scorers for Chilton were Koenigs and Hephner, each with 26 of the team's overall points.
Koenigs grabbed all of his points by pinning each of his four opponents. Each one of his pins came within the one minute and 12 second mark.

Koenigs' first opponent was Charlie Davis of Appleton East. He pinned Davis in 30 seconds. His next pin came in 1:12 over Anthony Seebruck of Necedah. The pin over Seebruck led Koenigs into the championship bracket where he pinned Brandon Swanke of Wisconsin Lutheran Academy in 1:09. The first-place match proved to be the quickest pin for Koenigs as he dominated Matt Gross of Oakfield, pinning him in a mere 29 seconds.

Hephner took a similar road, pinning each of his opponents, but Hephner defeated everyone he faced within 1:01.

Hephner's first pin was his slowest as his downed Jacob wendt of Kewaunee in 1:01, earning him a second round bye. In the third round Hephner toppled Trevor Kolodzik of the host team Omro in 58 seconds. The next pin for him came in 59 seconds and in the first-place match he pinned Robert Gurrath of Necedah in 42 seconds.

Adkins' road was nearly identical as he pinned three of his four opponents. He began with a round one bye before pinning Mike Thao of Appleton East in 3:22. Justin Steiber of Marathon was the only competitor Adkin faced and didn't pin, but he defeated Steiber 13-1 by major decision. In the championship bracket Adkin pinned both Taylor Marsh of Oshkosh Lourdes and Mike Thao again to earn first place honors.

Fucile, who also placed first in his weight class, did it differently. Fucile didn't pin anyone of his four competitors but still managed to gain wins, two of which by decision and the other two by major decision.

Fucile topped Dan Affeldt of Appleton East and Bryce Kies of Necedah to make his way into the championship bracket. Once he advanced he passed over Devon Gertschen of Marathon 17-11 by decision. In the first place match Fucile only allowed one point to be scored on him as he won 13-1 by major decision over Matt Thomas of Oshkosh Lourdes.

Petrie pinned his two opponents in the first three rounds before winning 7-0 by decision over Luke Seuffer of Omro. After defeating Seuffer, Petrie topped Winnebago Lutheran Academy's Brandon Schilling.

Breckheimer would have made the sixth first-place finisher for Chilton but he slipped up in the first-place match against Judd Gross of Marathon. Gross topped Breckheimer by decision with a score of 9-4.

The Chilton wrestlers will return to the mat on Jan. 12 when the Tigers will host the Brillion Lions on Youth Night. The wrestling is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.

On Jan. 14 the Tigers will travel to participate in the Freedom Irish Invitational, which is set to start at 9 a.m.
