Kylie Moxley, with two more 20-point performances, kept the Brillion girl's basketball team's undefeated streak alive after the Lions defeated Manitowoc Lutheran 41-30 and the Roncalli Jets 51-44.

The latest matchup for Brillion was its victory over the Jets on Jan. 6. The Lions mounted a fourth quarter comeback after falling behind in the second quarter. The Jets went into halftime with a six point lead over the 8-0 Lions, but Brillion outscored Roncalli 31-18 in the second half, including 20 points in the fourth quarter.

Brillion head coach Jeff Capelle said one of the big reasons his team was able to claw its way back into the lead was its defense.

"Tonight I thought we did a good job of getting back into the game after being behind for most of the game," Capelle said. "I thought our defensive pressure was much better in the second half."

The defense for the Lions tallied eight steals and forced the Jets into 20 turnovers.

The tale of two halves also translated over for Brillion on the offensive end, according to Capelle.

"I thought we really improved on the offensive end in the second half moving the ball to the open player and finishing shots in the lane," he said. "I was very happy with our teams effort for the entire game."

Finishing shots in the lane was a major factor leading to the Brillion victory as the Lions hit 22 of its 51 total points in the paint.

Roncalli, on the other hand, only recorded 10 points in the paint.

Moxley led all scorers in the game, grabbing 24 points off 9-of-18 shooting from the field. She also hit six of her seven free throw attempts and snagged a game-high eight rebounds. Moxley also attempted two three-point shots but failed to connect on both. Brillion, as a team, shot just over 18 percent from behind the arc, hitting only two of 11.

Other leading scorers for Brillion were Taylor Fischer and Jennifer Krueger each with seven points. Krueger tacked on four rebounds and three assists, while Fischer added three rebounds and two assists.

The leading scorer for Roncalli was McDonnell with 12 points.

Earlier in the week on Jan. 3, Brillion picked up its seventh win of the season over Manitowoc Lutheran.

Again, Moxley tallied a 21-point performance, leading both teams in points.
Brillion took the lead in the first quarter and didn't let up, holding all the Manitowoc Lutheran players to under 10 points.

"I was very happy with our teams effort tonight," Capelle said. "I thought they did a great job of competing for all 32 minutes tonight against a very good opponent. Our team defense was very consistent tonight, limiting them to tough shots throughout the game, and our defensive rebounding did not allow them to get second chance points."

Capelle also said he was satisfied with the way the offense played and found ways to get open looks.

"We moved the ball well tonight on offense to get good scoring opportunities and also were able to get some transition points during the game," he said.
Tori Lemke followed Moxley with 10 points while Courtney Clavers added five points.

Katie Knutson and Brianna Neumeyer led Manitowoc Lutheran with nine points each.

The next matchup for Brillion will be on Jan. 13 when the team travels to face Luxemburg-Casco at 7:30 p.m. The Spartans are currently 3-4, coming off a 45-38 loss to Oconto Falls.
