Despite 14 points from Andrew Huss, the Roncalli Jets boy's basketball team topped Chilton 59-33 on Jan. 9 in Chilton.
The 5-6 Jets came out fast against the Tigers, hitting several three-point shots. The hot shooting from behind the arc for Roncalli led the Jets to a 30-8 lead at halftime. Of the 30 points Roncalli scored before halftime, 21 of them came just in the second quarter. Roncalli also played strong defense, according to Chilton head coach Corey Behnke. The defense for the Jets held the Tigers to only two points in the first quarter and six in the second quarter. Chilton struggled to score points from the field and the free throw line, hitting only one of the team's seven free throw attempts throughout the game. Behind Huss' 14 points, Isaac Greuel followed with six points while both Jerad Wagner and Danny Mallmann each tallied four points. The leading scorer for the Jets was Isaiah Bessert with 18 points, all of which came from beyond the three-point line. Nathan Lassila added 12 points, six of which were off three-point shots. Other leading scorers for Roncalli were Nick Stelzer with 10 points and Michael Pozorski with nine points. The Olympian Conference play loss puts the Tigers' conference record at 2-6. Roncalli's conference record now stands at 5-3. The Tigers will return to the court to add to its win total on Jan. 13 at 7:30 p.m..
