The Brillion Lions boy's track and field team had 5 athletes competing at this past weekend's WIAA division II state track and field meet in La Crosse.

Coach Schlender made this comment about the state meet, "All five of our boys competed well in the biggest meet of the season.  We are especially happy for our two seniors who placed in the top six at the state meet and made it onto the awards stand in the last meet of their careers at BHS."

wordellSenior, Kevin Rank just made the finals cut off coming in at ninth place in the prelims, but had the best jump of his season at 43'1.75" in the finals to rocket up to a fourth place finish.

Rank credited better focus and a little push from his older brother Andy, who coached the Lions' jumpers this year and twice qualified for the state meet in his prep career.

"I've been trying to focus on the second phase of the jump and explode out of that," Rank stated.  "Andy's been very helpful.  He's been to state and told me what to expect."

"Kevin's performance at the state meet was an outstanding way for him to finish his high school career.  We are very proud of him.  He squeaked into finals in 9th place and had a huge jump in finals to move all the way up to 4th. Kevin has been a quiet, consistent, mentally tough competitor all along, and he proved his competitiveness again this weekend against the best jumpers in the state, stated Brillion Head coach Jeff Schlender.

Senior, Robby Wordell, also had a great finish to his prep career, as he placed sixth in the Division II state meet, in the shot put with a throw of 51'5".

Coach Schlender had this to say about Wordell, ""Robby raised his level of performance to the competition on Saturday and earned a well-deserved spot on the podium at the state meet.  He had his 2 best throws of his career in the trials.  He really did a great job preparing and staying focused this weekend.  He did not let the bad weather or any of the other distractions of the meet bother him.  He just went out and competed and had great results."   He finished his career with a great meet."

Also competing for the Brillion boys were three juniors.  Tyler Behnke competed in the high jump and finished in 14th place with a leap of 5'10", Ogden Holschbach competed in the pole vault placing 16th with a vault of 12'0", and Adam Schmitt competed in the 400m dash taking 15th with a time of 52.48 seconds.  "While our three juniors did not place they still have a lot to be proud of.  Making it to the state meet is a great accomplishment. They can build on this experience for the future.  They all prepared for the competition very well and represented Brillion with class," stated Coach Schlender.

Congratulations to the Brillion boys state competitors on a job well done!!!
