Popp and Steinke Named to First Team All-Conference PDF Print E-mail

Brillion seniors Beau Steinke and Andy Popp were both named to the first team all Olympian Conference when the selections were recently announced.

 Along with the Lions both Manitowoc Lutheran and Roncalli landed a pair of players on the all-Olympian Conference first team.

Senior pitcher Joe Jost and senior infielder Craig Redeker were chosen from the Lancers, while junior pitcher Matt Roberts and junior outfielder Taylor Grall were the Jets' selections to the 12-member first team.

Reedsville junior Adam Gilson was another  first-team selection.  While conference champion St. Mary Central had a league-high three players selected to the first team, led by senior Anthony Lutz, who was tabbed as the Player of the Year in the conference. Seniors Brian O'Connell and Matt Flunker were also chosen from the Zephyrs.

Rounding out the first team were senior Peter Aertz and freshman Craig Nennig of Wrightstown.

Reedsville landed a pair of players on the second team in senior Andy Schambureck and junior Vince Denior, while senior Kaleb Buch of Manitowoc Lutheran, senior Jeff Miller of Mishicot, senior Matt Waak of Roncalli and senior Eric Mueller of Valders were also chosen.

Area players earning honorable mention honors were Tyler Schmidt and Joe Liermann of Manitowoc Lutheran. Alex Honzik of Mishicot; Josh Ebert, Ty Wasmuth and Brian Denor of Reedsville; Tyler Abts of Roncalli; and Dallas Rutherford of Valders.

Lions Baseball Season Comes to a Close

The Brillion Lions baseball team had their season come to an end on Tuesday June 2nd in Fond du Lac during regional play.
Brillion suffered their season ending loss to Winnebago Lutheran Academy, losing by a score of 10-4.
The Lions fell behind early as the Vikings got off to a fast start, scoring four runs in the first inning against Brillion's starting pitcher Andy Popp, and never looked back. 
Leading hitters on the day for the Lions were:  Popp who went 3 for 4 with a homerun and an RBI, Brian Krueger who was 2 for 4 on the day, and Trevor Krizenecky who was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.
The Lions finished out their season with a 10-10 record.
