The Chilton AC's have certainly found their rhythm as they have won four weeks in a row to close out the first half of the season, beating St. Cloud, Mount Calvary, and now Cleveland and Marytown. On June 14th, Chilton went on the road to face a tough Cleveland ball club. Chilton jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning when Matt St. Marie homered and Luke Kolbe hit a run-scoring single to drive in Tim Roehrig. Cleveland quickly jumped back and tied it which is where it remained until the sixth inning when the Chilton bats really came alive. Kyle Bancroft led off the inning with a home run to spark a rally. With one out, Daryn Woelfel walked, St. Marie singled, and Roehrig followed with a long ball to make the score 6-2. But, Cleveland fought back against winning pitcher Aaron Leitner to bring it to 6-5 but an insurance run in the ninth proved to be too much when DJ Mortimer was plated. Roehrig supplied strong relief in the bottom half to seal it up at 7-5. Chilton kept things rolling when they traveled to Marytown for their first half finale. Daryn Woelfel set the tone early with a lead off double. Tim Roehrig then followed with another double which plated Woelfel for the first run of the game. Luke Kolbe knocked in Roehrig with an RBI-single to make the score 2-0 quickly. Chilton added to their lead when Zach DeWitt and Woelfel both singled and Bancroft walked to load the bases. Roehrig plated a run on a sacrifice fly that scored DeWitt, and Luke Kolbe drove in Woelfel and Bancroft with a single to make the score 5-0. In the fourth inning, Roehrig hammered a long home run to left-center to score another two runs, and not to be outdone, Ryan Wettstein followed up with a long ball of his own to make the score 8-0. Marytown tried to bounce back by scoring six runs in the following innings as starting and winning pitcher Luke Kolbe started to tire. Tim Roehrig provided several innings of solid relief by only allowing one additional run. With Roehrig's relief pitching and his second home run of the game in the sixth, Chilton put it out of reach making it 10-7. With the win, Chilton moved to 4-3 and completed their first half of regular season play with four straight victories. Chilton goes back to the road this Sunday against a tough St. Peter squad at 1:00. |
